This happened because we saved the contacts both on the mobile and the SIM, leading to duplication.

You already know how to copy contacts to a SIM card for backup. This was a very old and simple method, but it had a downside. During the backup process, many contacts would get deleted, causing a lot of trouble. Since SIM cards have a storage capacity of around 200 to 300 KB, they couldn’t store all the contact numbers, and some would be lost.

How to Transfer Contacts from One Android Mobile to Another

Nowadays, it’s easier to transfer contacts from one Android phone to another. There are two methods to do this:

Method 1:

  1. First, go to the contact list on your mobile. Tap on the three-dot section at the top, then select the Import/Export Contacts option.
  2. After that, choose the Export to Storage option. Once you click on it, you’ll see an export contact file. Save this file on your mobile.
  3. Then, go to your Gmail and email this file to yourself, or save it using any other method.
  4. When you insert your SIM card into the new mobile, log in with the same Gmail account that you used on the old phone.
  5. Open Gmail on the new phone and import the contact file (which will be in VCF format). All your contacts will be restored.

Method 2:

  1. Follow the steps in Method 1 to save the contact file on your mobile.
  2. Open your Chrome browser and search for “Google Contacts” on Google.
  3. Click on the first website link. You’ll see an option to create and export contacts. Choose the Import Contacts option.
  4. All your copied contacts from the previous phone will appear, and you can restore them on your new phone.

Method 2: Using Google Contacts

  • Follow the steps in Method 1 to export your contacts to a file.
  • Open a browser and search for “Google Contacts.”
  • Log in and choose the Import Contacts option.
  • Upload the VCF file, and your contacts will sync automatically.
